Changes to Golf Days in 2015

Below are some changes to the structure of matches, society and golf days commencing 2015 with an aim to achieve the following:

  1. Increase the number of society days per year from 2 to 3.
  2. To provide an opportunity for players to socialise more with other members of the society.
  3. To introduce an annual individual trophy.
  4. To allow winners of the team trophy to retain it for 12 months.
  5. To allow members to better prepare for upcoming matches.

To implement the above the following changes will occur beginning in 2015:

  • The society will meet three times a year, on the 1st Saturday in April (Spring), July (Summer) and October (Autumn). Fixing dates in advance will allow us to arrange up to 1 year in advance with golf clubs, securing the best pricing.
  • On the first meeting of each year (Spring) players will be just dusting off the clubs from the winter break, therefore the day will consist of a team and individual competition (similar to the existing days) although the trophies up for grabs will be smaller (to-keep trophies) and not the existing Claret Jug or new Individual Trophy. We will play a different format for the day to existing, maybe introducing a Texas Scramble. This day is simply a chance for players to warm up for the year.
  • At the Summer meeting the society will play for the (new) Individual Trophy. This day will focus on the social side of the society and allow players who can’t put teams of 4 together a chance to play and meet new golfers. Depending on the number of entered players groups of 3/4 players will be decided on the tee by pulling names from a hat, that group will play together (for a small team prize) and individually for the new trophy.
  • The existing Team Trophy will be played for at the Autumn meeting. This day will be the same format as currently played (6/6/6 team scores). The wining team will get to keep the trophy until the following Autumn meeting. A smaller Individual trophy will also be up for grabs for the highest Stableford score on the day.
  • Nearest the Pin and Longest drive trophies will be contended for at all three events as normal.

For those that would also like to play during the winter we can arrange a Winter match separate from any society matches.
